Water extraction is the first and most important step on any water damage job. Every gallon we pull out as liquid is a gallon the dehumidifiers don't have to evaporate over the next few days. That's why fast, thorough extraction shortens drying time, saves more flooring and drywall, and brings down the total cost of the claim.
Most of the water we extract in Dallas isn't floodwater. It comes from supply lines that burst after a hard freeze, water heaters that fail in garages and attics, AC condensate pans that overflow, washing machine hoses and toilet supply lines. On a slab foundation that water spreads sideways under the flooring and baseboards and wicks up into the drywall, so a puddle that looks small can reach several rooms.
We use truck-mounted extraction for large volumes and portable extractors for high-rise condos and apartments in Uptown, Downtown and Las Colinas where a truck can't get close. Weighted extraction tools press water out of carpet and pad. Specialized wands pull it out of hardwood seams, tile grout lines and the gap behind baseboards.
Once the standing water is gone, we map moisture with meters and thermal imaging to find water that's still trapped in the structure. That map tells us what can be dried in place and what has to come out, and it becomes the first page of your drying log and insurance file.
Extraction is step one of our water damage restoration in Dallas service. Once the standing water is out, water mitigation and structural drying take over, and if the water sat long enough to grow mold, mold remediation comes next. Wondering about cost? How water extraction works
- Stop the waterWe make sure the source is shut off and the area is safe to walk into.
- ExtractTruck-mounted or portable units pull standing water off every affected surface.
- Map moistureMeters and thermal cameras show where the water went under floors and inside walls.
- Hand off to dryingAir movers and dehumidifiers go where the moisture map says they're needed.
On Dallas slab homes the wet area under the flooring is almost always bigger than the puddle on top. We check at least one room past the last spot that looks wet before we decide what can be dried in place.
How pricing works

Water Extraction FAQs
Can I extract the water myself with a shop vac?
A wet/dry vac is fine for a small spill, but it can't pull water out of carpet pad, from under laminate or from inside a wall. The water left behind is what causes swelling, delamination and mold.
Will my carpet need to be replaced?
Carpet soaked with clean water can often be saved if it's extracted and dried quickly, although the pad usually gets replaced. Carpet soaked by sewage or floodwater has to come out for safety.
How do you remove water from under hardwood floors?
We extract through the surface and the seams, then use floor drying mats or panels together with dehumidification to pull moisture out from under the boards.
